Angel Beats! (with TK’s Story)

Angel Beats is one of the funniest and saddest anime I’ve ever seen. Although it didn’t make me cry as much as Clannad After Story did but it made me laugh so hard. It’s a 13 episode anime, it’s really short so you should watch it. There’s action, romance, tragedy, and comedy (my favorite genre).

In this anime, Otonashi awakens to learn that he is dead and can’t seem to remember anything about himself besides his name. A girl with a rifle, Yuri, explains to him that he is in the afterworld. Yuri is the leader of the SSS (Afterlife Battlefront) who wages war against a girl names Tenshi (Angel). Otonashi joins the SSS and tries to make peace with Tenshi. He finds himself being drawn to her. While trying to regain his memories, he discovers the truth about the afterlife.

One of my favorite characters is Iwasawa. Although she only appeared in the show for a short time, she was awesome. I love the way she played the guitar. It really showed how much fun she’s having. Her songs are amazing too. She’s in the band called Girls Dead Monster (GirlsDemo for short). One of the things that I love about Angel Beats are the songs. They’re so touching and I love listening to them. One of my favorite songs are My Song, My Most Precious Treasure, My Soul Your Beats, and the Brave Song. I especially love playing Brave Song in the piano. Iwasawa was one of the reasons why I started playing guitar again. I just really love her. When she sang My Song, it really left an impression on me.

Hinata and Yui are my favorite pairing in this anime. They argue a lot, they fight a lot, but you can really tell how much they care about each other. They’re the funniest pair in the anime. The way they fight is so funny.

The Yui Disappearance Scene was the saddest moment for me. The way Hinata confessed his feelings for Yui was so touching. When Yui said that nobody would want to marry her because of her disability, Hinata argued and said that he would. Hinata said that even when she can’t wal, she’ll love her. He even made up a story of they’ll meet in real life. Since Yui is always in bed, it’s gonna be hard for them to meet. But Hinata plays baseball, and one day Hinata’s gonna hit her window with the ball and then he’s gonna have to go inside to retrieve it. Then, they’ll meet. That story is so cute. I literally cried in this scene.

So a lot of people (including me) think that Angel Beats was too short. Not all of the characters’ past were explained. And then everyone was like, “What is up with TK?” I found him weird too at first until I read his story. I’m not 100% sure this is true.

TK’s Story:

He was an American citizen who fell in love with the daughter of a Yakuza boss. When the Yakuza boss found out, he kidnapped them both and threw them in the cells underground. Their cells were right next to each other, but it is heavily soundproofed that neither of them knew they’re so close to each other. They starved for one week and were then taken out. The girl’s father told TK that he had to dance. If TK stopped dancing the girl would lose a part of her body one by one: toes, then finger, then legs and arms. TK danced for five days without sleep until his body was unable to move. His girlfriend died by the end of the week. TK was then tortured to death, his death drawn out over the course of one month. When TK appeared in the afterworld, he lost his entire memory, remembering only the first English sentence his girlfriend had ever learned, “I Kiss You.”

True or not, the father’s crazy. I mean killing his own daughter? Why?

This anime’s ending was really good honestly. I like it when shows leave you hanging cuz it lets your imagination run wild. You think of what will happen next. But I do wonder what happened to them but I like the way it ended. I’m not complaining. I think the way it left you hanging left an impression and it’s hard for you to forget.

All in all, I like the anime. Some of you might not like it, but my opinion won’t change. \(^_^)/ -R!n
